DUBC had a record number of athletes competing on Saturday, and with the biggest squad ever and a solid preseason behind us we were ready to make a splash.
The women’s 1V started the day off with a solid result, coming second to Edinburgh by 0.6 seconds. The 2V was also the second fastest 2V, losing out to Edinburgh by just over 3 seconds, and the 3V was the fastest third boat on the water.
The men’s fours were out next, with our top 4- demolishing the competition, . The win went to the next DUBC 4-, showing our strength in depth. In the coxed 4, it was another success, with a 2nd and 3rd placing.
Div 2 was a statement for DUBC. Band 1 8+ was a 🥇🥈for Durham’s 1V and 2V, beating every other 1V by a large margin, and the 3rd 8+ was 5th, beating both Edinburgh and Newcastle 2Vs. The 4V also beat Edinburgh’s 2V, showing our strength in depth. The women returned for further spoils, beating many men’s eights.
Alongside the eights, the women’s quad won, showing off the multidisciplinary talent of the squad, alongside strong performances in the fours, with the 4+ coming second in band 1.
Overall, a weekend to show the country that DUBC is the top university boat club in the country. 💜
